Camper types: which type of motorhome suits you?

Four different camper types

There are so many different camper types that choosing a camper does not seem an easy choice at first. Fortunately, all motorhomes can be returned in only four categories. Namely the alcove camper, the semi-integrated, the integrated and the bus camper. In this blog we will consider each type and outline the pros and cons, so that you can find the motorhome that suits you best.

Alcove

You can recognize an alcove camper by such a large bump on the roof above the driver's cabin. Maybe not always nice, but underneath is a spacious double bed. In addition to the alcove bed, the sitting area can be converted into a bed for two small children and you will find with our models another one too double bed then yes bunk bed in the back. There is also plenty of storage space, which makes the alcove motorhome an ideal family camper.

The alcove is less streamlined than motorhomes from the other categories, making it more sensitive to wind and sometimes slightly higher fuel costs. Another concern is the reduced upward visibility from the cab due to the overhanging alcove. So be careful with protruding roof plates or beautiful signs.

Semi-integral

With its rugged appearance, the semi-integral is a popular motorhome. It is better streamlined than an alcove and less high, which benefits fuel consumption. Often these models also have a lowered chassis which ensures better driving characteristics. A lowered chassis in combination with a lot of load (in the garage) does mean that the rear of the motorhome comes closer to the road surface. So be very alert with high bumps and steep mountain roads.

The cabin seats can rotate in almost any layout to create a cozy seating area. You will always find a fixed bed in the back of the camper. This can be a cross bed are a French bed, an queen bed or two single beds. Do you want to create two extra sleeping places? Then choose a variant with a pull-down bed above the seating area.

Integral

The cream of the crop among motorhomes is the integral. The cabin and living area are fully integrated, which ensures good insulation. The cabin is also very spacious and often made of plastic, which prevents corrosion. A large panoramic windscreen provides a perfect all-round view and a wide viewing angle upwards. In addition to a fixed bed in the back of the camper, there is often also a comfortable fold-down bed above the cabin. This way, all the space in this luxury camping house is optimally used.

Due to the more complicated construction of the integrated cabin, the integral is expensive to purchase. On the other hand, this model is very stable in value. Other disadvantages are a weaker crumple zone (due to the use of plastic materials) and the lack of a door on the passenger side.

Bus Camper

The last of all camper types is the bus camper: a closed van converted into a camper. Inside, the bus camper is very efficiently equipped with the result that everything fits in it: a sitting area, a (conversion) bed, a kitchen and often a shower and toilet. Ideal because a bus camper also drives like a high passenger car, fits in a standard parking space, is easy to maneuver and can even be used as a normal car outside of the holidays.

This category mainly lacks (storage) space. The bed sizes are therefore usually limited and the furniture is sometimes tight. By means of an elevated camper superstructure or a lifting roof, two extra sleeping places can be created. In addition to the lack of space, another drawback is the heat loss through the large sliding side doors.
