Long weekend Lauwersoog and Schiermonnikoog

Camper experience

On March 27 the time had come, one time away with the camper! The first time for me, extra exciting and fun. On March 27, we picked up the camper in Aalsmeer early in the morning and then set course for Groningen, Lauwersoog. A long weekend Lauwersoog and Schiermonnikoog for a camper experience.

Camping convenience

We had booked a campsite in Lauwersoog (Siblu Camping Lauwersoog) for 3 nights. A nice and cozy campsite with all the facilities and service you could wish for. Fortunately, even in these crazy Corona times, we could use the sanitary building (toilet, showers and a place where we could do the dishes). Despite the fact that this was all present in the camper and is a possibility, we thought it was very nice to be able to use it now and then.

Breakfast in the sun

The campsite was quite empty (still more people than I expected) and it was wonderfully quiet. Nothing better than waking up and only hearing the birds whistling around you. The weather was bad for the first two days, but after that we were happy to enjoy the sun and even enjoy our Compact transverse camper can have breakfast outside.

Cycling on Schiermonnikoog

We rented bicycles at the campsite, the first day we opted for an electric bicycle and on the second day a mountain bike. In retrospect, very happy with this choice, because with a '' normal '' bike we were already called off Schiermonnikoog before we even set foot ashore. It felt like force 10 and we only had rain all day, but despite the slightly unpleasant weather, it was a beautiful island to discover. Thanks to our fantastic electric bikes, we tore the whole island in ease (which was many times bigger than I expected) and we discovered all the highlights of the island. Think of the lighthouse, the beach, the bunker and the immensely cute village. A hot chocolate with whipped cream should not be missed during this trip to Schiermonnikoog.

Mudflat hiking

The second day we had a mountain bike at our disposal with which we drove a wonderful trip of 20 km. With a sun, a mountain bike route attached to the campsite and deer that came to greet us, it could only be a very nice day and it was!

That same day we went mudflat walking accompanied by a guide, which is a quite special experience. Sometimes to your knees in the mud and the realization that you are walking on the seabed where a few hours ago and in a few hours there will be meters of water again. In the winter there are much fewer trips organized than in the summer, but everything showed that our guide knew exactly what he was doing, was extremely proud of this part of the Netherlands and felt honored to be able to show and experience all of this. When a seal came to have a look, which is quite rare at this time, our guide said, the day was complete.

All in all, had a really nice day and enjoyed the convenience, comfort and flexibility that a camper brings.
