Rent a large motorhome C driving license

Go for one rent a large camper C driving license if you want to go out with several people. In general, a motorhome is also much easier to drive than most people think. Partly because of this, it is also possible to drive a motorhome up to 8 seats or 3.500 kilograms with a 'normal' driving license B. If it concerns more places or more weight, a C1 driving license or even a C driving license is required. Driving in a large camper is therefore different than in a car, so it is necessary to get used to this.

When do you need a C driving license to rent a motorhome?

When renting a large motorhome with a C driving license, it is mandatory in the Netherlands to have at least a C1 driving license for motorhomes between 3.500 and 7.500 kilograms. If a large motorhome is lighter, you can simply hit the road with a B driving license. Please note: the weight of a motorhome and the loading capacity are calculated on the basis of what is stated on the registration certificate. From our experience we know better than anyone that this differs slightly from practice. That is why, in practice, you are often required to obtain a C driving license for a motorhome sooner than you would initially think.

When do you have to get a C driving license in practice?

An example. In practice, you have to deal with a large motorhome with a C driving license more often than you might think. If the registration certificate states that the large motorhome weighs 3.100 kilograms. And the load capacity of the motorhome is 400 kilograms, in theory you should be allowed on the road with a B driving license. However, this does not take into account the fact that the motorhome is not yet ready for holiday. Seats and extra cargo such as bicycles, inventory and a water tank are not included yet. This ultimately ensures that the maximum weight of 3.500 kilograms is exceeded.

What happens if you rent a large motorhome without a C driving license?

In practice, many motorhome travelers (unknowingly) drive a motorhome that is too heavy. This may be partly due to the example above, which shows that theory and practice can differ. Renting a large motorhome C driving license without owning it can lead to a hefty fine. If this is the case, the registration certificate must also be adjusted. And a C1 driver's license is required to go on the road with the camper. Fortunately, this driver's license can be obtained in many places within a relatively short time. It consists of both a theory and practical exam.
