We will briefly explain this in this extensive blog.

1. Type of camper, which type is suitable for your camper holiday

2. Booking early has advantages, be there on time

3. Insurance and deposit, the business side of camper rental

4. What else should I think about? Practical extras

5. The route, campsites and camper pitches

6. What should I think about along the way? About dimensions, Diesel, Ad Blue, tolls and vignettes

1. Motorhome type

Before you start making plans for a wonderful camper holiday, first consider the type of camper you want to rent for your camper holiday. Who is traveling with you? Your partner, your family, your friends or perhaps your dog? We have a type of camper for all travel groups. We have several campers within one type of camper. At Camperhuren.nl you book a type of camper and not a specific camper.

With a driving license B you can drive all campers. The exception is the Family Plus type with double beds. To drive this type of camper you need at least a C1 driver's license.

1 to 2 berth motorhomes

There are the 2-person campers as a Compact transverse bed, Compact queen bed, Compact plus queen bed, Compact single beds and of course the Bus Camper single beds and Bus Camper transverse bed. These campers have 1 fixed bed for 2 people and a length of 6 to approximately 7 meters and are therefore easy to maneuver and park.

The camper has 4 seats with belts. If you are traveling with 3 or 4 people, you could take a tent with you to supplement the number of sleeping places. Type Compact Plus Queen bed is a 2-person camper, but more spacious with a lot of luxury. Our pearl in the fleet.

Campers up to 4 people

The 4-person campers can be divided into Comfort Plus queen bed, Comfort French bed, Comfort transverse bed, Comfort Plus single beds and Comfort single beds. These campers have a fixed bed in the back and a pull-down bed above the seating area. Do you want a spacious 4-person camper with large headroom? Then choose our Comfort Plus single beds. The fold-down bed is located a lot further forward, which means there is more headroom.

6-person campers

The 6-person campers in our fleet can be divided into 3 types: Family bunk beds, Family double beds and Family Plus double beds. The first camper already reveals the interior layout in its name. At the back is the fixed bunk bed. What little camper wouldn't want to sleep in a bunk bed in their own house on wheels?

Type Family Plus double beds is a camper with a double axle and the most luxurious in our fleet. The length of no less than 8,60 m provides wonderful space in this luxury camper; large double beds, spacious seating area, separate shower and toilet, very large garage, TV, tall refrigerator, oven, Maxfan, air conditioning and stabilizers ensure that your trip is extra comfortable. It is the only type of camper in our fleet for which you need at least a C2 driver's license.

Campers for people with long legs

The comfortable beds in the campers vary in size between 1.95 and 210 cm in length. In general, the campers with transverse beds and single beds have the longest beds.

Campers with Isofix

Many campers are equipped with Isofix. Let us know if you want to reserve a camper with Isofix. We also rent regular car seats.

Take your dog with you in the camper

The dog can come along in the Compact transverse bed type and the Comfort single bed type. The surcharge for the dog is €145. Obviously, the dog is not allowed on the chairs and beds. In many countries, the dog must be on a leash and attached to the seat belt in the camper. So make sure you have a sufficiently wide adjustable seat belt to secure your dog while driving.

5. The route, campsites and camper pitches

One completely plans his route and does not want to be faced with surprises. The other lets go of planning, roams through Europe and looks at the destination per day. An easy way to find a nice campsite or the nearest motorhome parking is via the app Camper contact† Users of the app rate camping spots throughout Europe, submit changes and photos, and register new locations. Administrators check all new information and post it in the app. This way you have all current motorhome locations at hand.

The costs per stay depend on a number of factors: the number of people in your travel group, the period of the year, the length of the camper, the location of the campsite or camper place, the facilities at the location and the country of your destination. For a camper place you pay between 0 and 25 euros per night. An overnight stay at a campsite starts at €20 and averages €40 per night. In the blog “This costs camping overnight!” At campingwijzer.nl you can read more about price comparisons for camping at home and abroad.

There are various organizations that offer a discount for your stay, for example by purchasing a camping guide. ACSI is such a camping specialist.

“The average prices of campsites vary considerably per country.”

6. What should I think about along the way?

Dimensions

A camper is wider, longer and higher than the passenger car you probably drive every day. You take the dimensions into account while driving, but also when camping or at camper pitches. The dimensions are stated on the checklist and on the dashboard of your camper.

In addition to securing your campsite or RV park, you will usually need to reserve a spot on a ferry, if applicable to your route. You will need a license plate and usually the length of the camper. You can request the license plate from us 10 days before departure. For the length you can use 7,6 m (for the Family Plus type double beds 9 m) or view the dimensions in the information for your type of camper on our website.

Diesel and Ad Blue

You will of course have to refuel several times during your journey. You fill up with Diesel at the regular pump. You also keep an eye on the amount of AdBlue. AdBlue is an addition to the diesel in a separate tank, which is used to make diesel vehicles run cleaner, according to European standards. The camper indicates when you need to refill Ad Blue. You can fill up Ad Blue at the pump at most major gas stations or buy it separately at any gas station.

We are regularly asked what the average use of diesel in a camper is. That is difficult to say, because it depends on your driving style, your route, the weather, the road surface and the type of camper. In general, semi-integrated and integral campers drive approximately 1:9. A bus camper runs a little more economically and can even achieve a speed of 1:13. Due to its height at the front, the alcove camper has more resistance and consumes between 1:6 and 1:9.

Toll and vignettes

Check what requirements your route has before departure. For example, register yourself for Sweden and Norway, before you leave home, for an Epass24 account via epass24.com. Epass24 accounts are free and you only pay for your tolls. Of Epass24 you can easily pass through toll gates and avoid extra costs and fines.

Also consider the following things when planning your route:

  • environmental passes (with the exception of Germany and France, these are present)
  • toll vignettes or passes, such as the Epass24 for Sweden and Norway*
  • reservation of campsites and camper pitches

You can find a detailed explanation of tolls in Scandinavia on our website under Inspiration in the blog “Tolls in Scandinavia”.
