Toll in Scandinavia

You want to be well prepared before your motorhome holiday to Scandinavia starts. In Scandinavia bridges and roads are tolled. All vehicles driving in Sweden and Norway must pay toll charges. For a trip to Scandinavia you have to arrange a number of things before departure.

In this blog we explain everything about tolls in Scandinavia; where you pay and how you do it. There are several ways to pay the toll.

To simplify this process and to avoid extra costs, for Sweden and Norway, before you leave home, register for an Epass24 account via epass24.com. Epass24 accounts are free and you only pay for your tolls.

EPASS24: AUTOMATIC TOLL STATION REGISTRATION FOR SWEDEN AND NORWAY

1) Create a free account at www.epass24.com.
2) Indicate that it concerns a RENTAL car: automatic payment; registry; RENTAL. You can find the exact license plate via Wed Request 10 days before departure.
3) Check your dates. It is very important to enter the correct period to avoid billing invoices from the next tenant.

Avoid extra costs
As a renter you are responsible for the timely registration and/or payment of tolls and invoices. Late payment will result in any increases.

If you do not register (on time) with epass24.com, due to license plate recognition, the bill for the toll is sent to Camperhuren.nl. This can be up to 6 months after dates. If Camperhuren.nl receives invoices for the motorhome rented by you in the period you rented, we will forward these to you and charge you for the extra administration costs and any additional charges.

Nice to know
• It is possible to check the passages via your own Epass24 account.
• Payments are made via credit card account or invoices.

TOLL IN DENMARK

There are no toll roads in Denmark. Tolls must be paid for the Great Bel Bridge (Storebæltsbroen) between Funen and Sjælland and for the Øresundsbroen Bridge (Øresundsbroen) between Denmark and Sweden.

Payment

You can pay cash in Danish kroner or euros, and at the Øresund Bridge also in Swedish kroner.
Payments can be made with one of the well-known credit cards and with a bank card with Maestro logo.

• Toll badge
A toll badge (bizz, toll tag or OBE, on board equipment) on the inside of the windscreen makes paying toll and ferry fees easy. The toll badge can be used on bridges, roads and ferries of various companies in Denmark, Sweden and Norway and on ferry services between Germany and Denmark. The Danish Brobizz toll badge will no longer be usable in Norway from April 13, 2023.
The toll badge is available online at brobizz.com/en, autopass.no en easygo.com.
When approaching a toll station or ferry service, follow the signs with one of these indications: Bizz, BroBizz, AutoPASS. The amount due will then be debited from your credit card account via the toll badge.

Bridges

TOLL IN NORWAY

Tolls are levied on a large number of roads, tunnels and bridges in Norway. Oslo, Bergen, Kritiansand and Trondheim levy city tolls. In most cases, the toll will be charged automatically and there is no need to stop.

Toll stations

• Automatic toll stations (with cameras)
Most Norwegian toll stations are automatic, so you can drive through them without stopping.
Here a recording is made of all license plates. Because you drive through a toll station with a rental camper, it is therefore important to register in advance via epass24.com. This way you avoid paying extra costs afterwards!
• Manned toll stations
There is still 1 toll road where you have to pay at the toll gate; The Atlanta tunnel. This can be done with a credit card or cash.
• Unmanned toll stations
At the unmanned toll stations it is usually possible to pay by credit card or cash. Most unmanned toll stations can be found mainly on the mountain roads. It is not always possible to pay with a credit card at these toll gates. It is therefore useful to always have small change (NOK 10 and NOK 20 coins) with you.
