Camper language; types of beds

The camper ABC

Do you know what gray water is? Have you ever heard of a French bed? Or did you already know that a camper has a garage? When you rent a camper, you come across strange terms. We at Camperhuren.nl will take you through the jargon of camper life in a series of blogs. We explain the concepts to you. This way you know everything you need when you rent a camper.

Immerse yourself in the world of camper life and discover in a moment the meaning of these words through this first blog.

Beds and such

We rent campers with various layouts. Are you camping as a couple, with young children or with a bunch of friends? There is an ideal camper with suitable beds for every group. Just pay attention!

French bed

A double bed with a cut off corner. In the past, this shape was common for beds in France, hence the name French. Because a triangle has been removed from the bed, you have more walking space. This bed is accessible from one side and has a low entry. This means that you can get into bed without steps. The sleeping and living areas flow into each other, giving you a spacious feeling inside the camper.

cross bed

This is the traditional camper bed, is located at the back of the camper and is placed across the width (transversely). You reach this double bed via a passage through the rear part of the camper. You enter and exit the bed via a small staircase. A disadvantage of this bed is that the person lying at the back has to climb over the other person to get in and out of bed. The advantage is that your bed is separated from the living area. Another advantage is that the height of the bed gives you ample storage (garage) under the bed.

Queen bed

This type of double bed can also be found in hotels. It is a bed that has walking space on both sides, so that you can both get in and out of the bed comfortably. The sleeping area is separated from the living area.

Lift bed

A bed that hangs against the roof or above the driving cabin of the camper. You lower the bed electrically or manually. Very practical and space-saving!

Single beds

The term single beds means that there are two separate single beds in the back of the camper. The beds are connected by an intermediate piece, also with a mattress. There are comfortable steps in the intermediate section, making it easy to get in and out of the beds. Another advantage is that the intermediate piece can be extended, turning the bed into one large bed. You then enter and exit the bed via a staircase. Families with small children can also sleep in this bed with 3 people. A big advantage of this bed is the large garage under the bed.

The single beds in the bus camper differ from this. These are two separate beds that, when unfolded, form a double bed and, when folded, create space for storage in the back of the bus.

Alcove bed

This bed is available in the alcove model. You know them; the camper with the big bump on the front. The alcove is the space above the cabin. The spacious double bed in the alcove spans the full width. You climb in and out of bed via a staircase. A dream of every child!

Bunk

Another bed that kids love; the bunk bed! The bunk bed of a camper is located in the back of an alcove camper. The lower bed is foldable, creating a large storage space in the garage.

Safety nets

The safety nets are characteristic of the beds in the campers. All beds, except the French bed and single beds, have one or more safety nets to prevent you from falling out of bed during your sleep.
